Decorative Art Appraiser

Aileen Ward has been in the appraisal business since 1995.

In addition to preparing personal property appraisals for fair-market-value, insurance, and probate purposes, Aileen is presently responsible for curating all of John Moran's monthly Estate Auctions. These sales include European and American furniture, silver, porcelain, sculpture, and fine furnishings.

For ten years prior to joining John Moran Auctioneers, Aileen worked for Christie’s in New York. After starting her career in the Decorative Arts department at Christie’s East, Aileen joined the European Furniture department at Park Avenue in 1997, where she remained until early 2006, serving as an Assistant Vice President. Aileen has evaluated, researched and catalogued thousands of lots of furniture and decorative objects for hundreds of auction catalogues, notably including property from the Estate of Doris Duke, the Estate of Charles W. Engelhard, Jr., and the Collection of John W. Kluge, among others. She regularly contributed scholarly essays to Christie’s catalogues and worldwide publications.

After attending Boston University, Aileen graduated cum laude from the American University of Paris, France, with a degree in Art History. In 2008 Aileen was awarded a certificate of Uniform Standard in Professional Appraisal Practice by the Appraisal Foundation. She is an active member of the international Regional Furniture Society, which studies the vernacular furniture traditions in the British Isles and its former colonies.
