 Katie Halligan
American Paintings Specialist
Katie Halligan has been in the appraisal business since 1999.
Prior to joining John Moran Auctioneers, Inc., Katie worked in the American Paintings Department of Christie’s Los Angeles, from 1999 through 2005. While at Christie’s, Katie evaluated, researched and catalogued hundreds of California, Western, and American paintings, sculpture, and works on paper. She was responsible for the sale of numerous notable private and institutional collections, including the Estate of Katherine H. Haley and the Phoenix Art Museum.
From 1998 to early 1999, Katie worked for George Stern Fine Arts of West Hollywood, California, a gallery specializing in Early California Impressionism. In addition to preparing exhibitions, she worked with the estates of the California artists Conrad Buff and Arthur Dominique Rozaire. Katie also contributed the scholarly essay, “The Life of Arthur Dominique Rozaire” for the publication Arthur Dominique Rozaire: Poet with a Brush.
At present, Katie is responsible for curating each of John Moran's thrice-annual auctions devoted to California and American paintings. Since joining the company in 2006, she has helped to secure several new auction records for important regional artists such as Granville Redmond and John F. Peto.
Katie graduated summa cum laude from Wells College, Aurora, New York, with a degree in Visual Arts with a concentration in Art History. Katie is currently a member of the American Art Council at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. She also belongs to the Twin Tiers Irish Arts Branch of Comhaltas Ceoltóití Éireann, the largest group involved with the preservation and promotion of Irish traditional music and culture.
