signed lower left: Granville Redmond, oil on canvas, 30''H x 40''W. Note: The original owner of this painting arrived in the U.S. from Russia in 1902, at the age of nine. He settled in Manhattan and lived in a tenement on the Lower East Side with his father, mother and sister. He attended the Hebrew Technical Institute, and at the outbreak of WWI he enlisted in the U.S. Army. While serving abroad assigned to the Signal Corps, he learned to work with film. After the war he married and relocated to Hollywood, where it was only natural that he pursue a career in the burgeoning film industry. During this period he became acquainted with many actors, actresses and directors. About 1930, while visiting Charlie Chaplin's studio one day, he was introduced to Granville Redmond and soon thereafter purchased this painting. This important landscape has remained within the same family for nearly eighty years. Provenance: Purchased from the artist c.1930, by descent Private Collection, Irvine, CA. Condition: Visual: Generally good condition. Blacklight: No evidence of restoration under blacklight. AS-IS. ALL SALES FINAL.
