Late 19th/early 20th c, marked ''.800'' and with maker's mark of Bruckmann & Sohne, Heilbronn, and further marked ''Posen'', the deeply scalloped C-scroll-decorated rim with pierced cherub rocaille clasps to sides and caryatid handles to ends, over a pierced lattice, floral and C-scroll-decorated body, over a similar spreading foot, with later removable brass liner, weighable silver, 10.75'' H x 23.5'' W x 10.25'' D, 60 oz, est:$1000/2000

Note: Peter Bruckmann (1865-1937) was the first chairman of the Deutscher Werkbund (founded in 1907) and the Bruckmann firm produced many pieces by leading German designers. Provenance: Retailed by L. Posen Witwe; Property of a Private Pasadena, CA Collector. Condition: Very nicely chased and decorated. Highly detailed. General marks, scratches, rubbing and tarnishing commensurate with age and use. Wing of one caryatid lacking. Some bending to tips of wings. Same figure with laurel wreath likely reduced slightly. With polish residue in crevices. Brass liner likely a later addition, as stated.
