A collection of snuff, patch, and table boxes 19th/20th century, including: an Austrian brass mounted porcelain box, with beehive mark to underside (1.25 x 1.75''), a small circular Russian lacquer box (2''), five Mauchlinware boxes including four circular graduated (the largest 3.5'') and one rectangular (3.75 x 2.25''), a circular tartanware box with shell & coral decoration to top (2 x 3''), two Japanese brass boxes, one signed, with black engraved decoration, the rectangular (1.75 x 2.5''), three Japanese lacquer boxes, two shell-form with foliate and avian decoration (the larger 4.75 x 3.75''), and one circular decorated with gingko leaves (3'') a Chinese enamelled silver box, centrally decorated with a figure, marked (2 x 1.75''), two Victorian rectangular horn boxes, one with transfer printed town scene, the other with floral silver and mother-of-pearl inlay (the larger 3.5 x 2.5''), seven rectangular Victorian lacquer boxes, with gilt and mother-of-pearl decoration (the largest 2 x 3.25''), three rectangular metal boxes, one brass and two nickel, engraved with names or initials (the largest 3.5 x 1.75''), five Victorian lacquer and papier-mache boxes (the largest 3.5''), three Victorian rectangular shell boxes (the largest 2 x 3''), six Victorian wooden boxes, some carved with scenes in relief (the largest 2 x 4'') and two Victorian papier-mache boxes, one of shell-form, the other circular with scene of a castle to center, probably Bavarian (the latter 2.75''), approx. 42 pcs, est:$600/900 *Price Realized: $2,070.00
Provenance: Property from the Mary D. Osgood Estate, Pasadena, CA. Condition: General marks, nicks, scratches, wear and losses, commensurate with age and use. Some with cracking to edges and rubbed areas of decoration. Tortoise shell boxes with feet replaced, one box lacking two feet. Please refer to images for condition information.
