John Moran has been in the appraisal business since 1970.

As owner of John Moran Auctioneers, Inc. since 1969, John has presided over several hundred major auctions. His sales encompass all ranges of valuable personal and estate property, including: quality paintings, jewelry, silver, fine furnishings, art objects, carpets, and musical instruments. John's sales have generated hundreds of millions in gross revenue for his consignors.

Based in Pasadena, John Moran is a specialist in California and Western oil paintings and watercolors. In 2001, he became the first auctioneer to sell a painting by a California artist for more than a million dollars, when he auctioned Guy Rose’s Early Morning, Summertime for $1,210,000.

Maintaining close ties with bankers, lawyers, trust officers, insurance companies, museums, and private clients throughout the greater Los Angeles area, John and his team of specialists regularly prepare appraisals for insurance, estate planning, fair-market-value, liquidation, loan collateral, and charitable donation purposes.

In addition to his regular sales, he has served as a pro-bono advisor and auctioneer to more than three hundred fundraising events, earning millions of dollars for Southern California organizations.
